How much did Rruga e Kombit (Albania A1) cost to build?
Rruga e Kombit is Albania's strategic east–west road corridor from the Adriatic port of Durrës toward the Kosovo border; the A1 toll motorway forms its Milot–Morinë section. Its difficult 61-kilometre Rrëshen–Kalimash central leg includes a 5.5-kilometre twin-bore tunnel and 29 bridges and was completed by Bechtel–ENKA in 2011. Albania's infrastructure minister reported in March 2018 that the road had cost Albanians USD 1.3 billion and still required about USD 300 million. The route operates under a 30-year improvement, maintenance and toll concession, and a new EUR 40 million Kukës bridge opened in November 2024.
