What is the contract value of A38 Marsh Mills viaduct replacement?
The A38 Marsh Mills viaduct replacement renewed two defective slip-road viaducts east of the Marsh Mills roundabout in Plymouth. The original 1969–70 structures had developed extensive cracking from alkali–aggregate reaction. A design-and-build contract was awarded to Hochtief in March 1994, with Tony Gee responsible for the replacement design. The work culminated in a record-setting sideways slide of a 410-metre, 5,500-tonne bridge while limiting the principal road closure to 48 hours, and the project was completed in 1996.
