How much did it cost to build the original Atlantic Ocean Road?
The Atlantic Ocean Road links the Norwegian mainland with Averoy across a chain of small islands and eight bridges. Construction of the original 8,274-metre coastal route began on 1 August 1983, and it opened to traffic on 7 July 1989, replacing a ferry connection. Contemporary engineering coverage reports a construction cost of NOK 122 million in 1989 money; one quarter was financed through tolls, which were retired in 1999. The original road is complete and remains in use, while later scenic-route facilities and nearby road projects have separate costs.
