How much has been spent on Spain's high-speed rail network (AVE) so far?
Spain's high-speed rail network began with the Madrid?Seville line, which opened for AVE services on 21 April 1992. AVE is the train-service brand, while Adif and Adif Alta Velocidad manage the rail infrastructure. This entry uses a dated network-investment snapshot rather than pretending that the continually expanding network has one final construction cost: by April 2017, Adif reported about EUR 51.775 billion invested in infrastructure already in service and routes still under construction. That figure excludes Renfe's train fleet. The CNMC recorded 3,143 km of high-speed infrastructure at the end of 2015; it is not a present-day network length.
