How much did the extension of BMT Nassau Street Line cost?

The BMT Nassau Street Line is the Lower Manhattan subway corridor connecting the Williamsburg Bridge approach with the Montague Street Tunnel. It opened in stages: service reached Essex Street in 1908, Chambers Street in 1913, and the new roughly 0.9-mile Nassau Street Loop extension to Fulton and Broad Streets in 1931. A contemporary report put that 1931 extension's construction cost at US$10.072 million; this was not the price of every earlier section of the line. Decades later the MTA's 2000–2004 capital plan allocated US$36 million for a separate track and platform reconfiguration, reported complete in 2005. The 2000-era budget is not an audited 2005 expenditure or another cost of building the original line.
