How much did the Bob Lanier Public Works Building renovation cost?

Bob Lanier Public Works Building is a 27-story, 125-metre office tower at 611 Walker Street in downtown Houston. Completed in 1968 as the Houston Lighting & Power Building, it was acquired by the City of Houston in 1995 for US$7.5 million and converted for municipal offices. A downtown development survey listed the conversion, including new tunnel links, at US$43 million; a City Controller audit said the City paid approximately US$55 million to renovate the property. Both figures concern the conversion of an existing building, not the unverified cost of its original 1960s construction. The 27-story tower and six-story annex were occupied by several city departments from 1998 onward.
