How much does Brenner Base Tunnel cost?

The Brenner Base Tunnel is a 55-kilometre twin-tube railway tunnel being built between Innsbruck, Austria, and Fortezza, Italy, beneath the Brenner Pass. Its often-quoted 64-kilometre underground route includes nine kilometres of the existing Inn Valley tunnel near Innsbruck, not 64 kilometres of new Brenner Base Tunnel. Construction of the Mules access tunnel began in 2007. The western main tube became continuous in August 2026, but railway outfitting and other construction were still required; the planned start of operations is 2032. The project company's 2023 whole-project forecast, later recorded in its 2024 annual report, is EUR 10.53568 billion, including more than the base construction and railway-outfitting estimate. This is a forecast, not final expenditure.
