How much did British Columbia Highway 1 cost to build?
This Highway 1 project widened the Trans-Canada Highway from four to six lanes along a 16-kilometre stretch between Grandview Highway in Burnaby and the Lougheed Highway/Cape Horn interchange in Coquitlam. The British Columbia transportation ministry funded new median high-occupancy-vehicle lanes, ramp changes, a median barrier and lighting as part of its Go Green programme. The HOV facility opened on 28 October 1998. The ministry recorded a final project cost of CAD 62 million. That price covers this particular Lower Mainland upgrade, not all 1,047 kilometres of British Columbia Highway 1; illumination extended across a broader 32-kilometre corridor.
