How much does Brussels Metro Line 3 cost?
Brussels Metro Line 3 was planned as a 10.3 km, 18-station north-south route from Albert to Bordet, combining conversion of the existing Albert-North Station premetro corridor with a new 4.5 km northern tunnel and seven new stations. A Belgian Court of Audit reconstruction put the cost of the complete original metro scheme at EUR 4.7597 billion as of December 2024, compared with EUR 1.338 billion in a March 2015 plan. Those are estimates, not the amount spent or a currently approved construction budget. The audit recorded EUR 421.3 million spent by the end of 2024. Work began on the Albert station portion in 2020, but the northern extension was officially paused in April 2026. The southern works continue for a premetro service, not the originally envisaged automatic heavy-metro line. There is no confirmed opening date for the full original scheme. The image is a 2019 map of the proposed route, not today's operating network.
