How much did the phase 2 of LGV Est cost?

The LGV Est (LGV Est europeenne) is the 406 km high-speed line from Paris towards Strasbourg and Luxembourg in eastern France, built in two phases: the 300 km first phase from Vaires-sur-Marne to Baudrecourt, begun on 28 January 2002 and in service since 10 June 2007 at a cost of about EUR 4 billion financed 61 percent from public funds, and the 106 km second phase from Baudrecourt to Vendenheim, begun in June 2010 and opened on 3 July 2016 after the Eckwersheim derailment during trials in November 2015. The ex post evaluation (bilan LOTI) published by the French ministry's inspectorate IGEDD establishes the final cost of phase 2 at EUR 1,971 million in current euros (EUR 1,804 million at June 2008 conditions), 10 percent below the forecast, so that the two phases together come to about EUR 5.97 billion.
