How much does Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor cost?
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor is India's first bullet train line of about 508 km with 12 stations, built by the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited with a JICA official development assistance loan covering 81 percent of the cost. Metro Rail Today reported on 2 January 2026 that the cost had escalated from the INR 1.1 lakh crore originally sanctioned to a revised estimate of INR 1.98 lakh crore, an 83 percent rise blamed on land acquisition, regulatory approvals and contract delays, whose final approval was still under consideration, with the first Surat to Bilimora section targeted for August 2027, full completion by December 2029 and INR 85,801 crore spent by November 2025.
