How much does Northwestern Busway cost?

The Northwest Busway is the 18 km separated rapid-transit busway planned alongside State Highway 16 and the Northwestern Motorway from Brigham Creek to the Auckland city centre, delivered in three stages: new stations at Brigham Creek and Lincoln Road (NZD 330 to 380 million), a separated busway from Brigham Creek to near Newton (about NZD 4 billion) and a not yet funded third stage from Point Chevalier to the city centre. Newsroom reported on 7 September 2026 that the NZD 4.9 billion in headlines covers only the first two stages, the Infrastructure Pipeline puts the whole at NZD 7 billion, and 1News gave at least NZD 4.4 billion for the first two stages in April 2025.
