How much does Red Line cost?
The MBTA Red Line is served by new cars built by CRRC Massachusetts under a state contract awarded in 2014 together with the Orange Line, of which 252 Red Line cars were on order by 2025 with 58 delivered. English Wikipedia says the state agreed in 2024 to raise the contract cost by 148 million dollars to over 1 billion dollars, and WBUR wrote in May 2025 that the cost of the project had swelled to 1 billion dollars overall.
