How much does Sonoma–Marin Area Rail Transit cost?

Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) is a commuter rail line in the North Bay of California legislated as a 70-mile route between Cloverdale and Larkspur, built in phases after the 2008 Measure Q sales tax, with service starting in August 2017 and the 2.1-mile Larkspur extension opening on 14 December 2019, bringing the line to 45.1 miles. Wikipedia reports that the full system was first estimated at about USD 450 million in 2008, that USD 448 million had been spent by 2019 on the section from Airport Boulevard to San Rafael, and that the estimated cost to complete the legislated system had risen to USD 944 million; extensions to Windsor opened in 2025 and Healdsburg began construction in March 2026.
