What is the estimated cost of the first stage of Vienna's U2/U5 metro cross?

The Linienkreuz U2/U5 is the first construction stage of the new Vienna U5 and the U2 extension: about 9 km of new track with new stations, mostly built with the 'buttonhole' method under dense housing, from Karlsplatz to Frankhplatz on the U5 and from Rathaus to Matzleinsdorfer Platz on the U2. Preparatory works began on 8 October 2018 and main construction in January 2021. The federal government and the city agreed in 2022 on EUR 2.019 billion for this stage (price basis 2020); in 2024 and 2026 a cost increase of about EUR 300 million and delays to 2030 were reported.
