How much was agreed for the first stage of Vienna's U5 and U2 extension?
The U5 is the new Vienna U-Bahn line that is being built together with the extension of the U2 as the first construction stage of the U2xU5 programme: the first U5 section from Karlsplatz via Rathaus to Frankhplatz and the U2 extension from Rathaus to Matzleinsdorfer Platz. The federal government and the city agreed in a 15a agreement of 2022 on total costs of EUR 2.019 billion for this stage on the price basis of 2020, and the opening of the U5 section, planned for 2026, has since slipped to about 2030 with at least EUR 300 million of extra costs under negotiation.
