How much did the original Yonge subway cost to build?

Line 1 Yonge-University is the U-shaped Toronto subway line of the Toronto Transit Commission whose first section, the original Yonge subway of 7.4 km with 12 stations between Union Station and Eglinton Avenue, was begun on 8 September 1949 and opened on 30 March 1954 as Canada's first subway, using 104 cars ordered from Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon for CAD 7.8 million in 1951. James Bow's history on Transit Toronto says that what began as a two-subway project costing CAD 42.3 million was reduced to a single line estimated at CAD 28.9 million plus CAD 3.5 million of rolling stock, and that the final cost of the Yonge subway was tallied at CAD 67 million.
