How much did Afourer Pumped Storage Station cost to build?
Afourer Pumped Storage Station is Morocco's first utility-scale pumped-storage complex, built by the national electricity utility ONE in Azilal Province. Two reversible powerhouses connect the Ait Ouarda water system to upper and lower balancing reservoirs; ONE reported 463 MW of installed capacity. Construction began in June 2001, the first turbine-generator pair entered service in December 2004, and the full scheme was operating in 2005. Each reservoir provides at least 1,256,400 cubic metres of usable storage, allowing off-peak electricity to pump water uphill for generation during peak demand.
