What is the approved budget of Amazon Leo?

Amazon Leo, formerly Project Kuiper, is Amazon's low-Earth-orbit broadband network. The FCC authorized the first-generation system in 2020, and Amazon committed more than USD 10 billion to the programme. Two prototype satellites validated the end-to-end design in 2023; full-scale deployment began on 28 April 2025 with 27 production satellites. By September 2026 Amazon reported 14 deployment missions and nearly 400 satellites in orbit, while the first-generation authorization covers 3,236 spacecraft. The network combines satellites in several orbital shells with optical inter-satellite links, gateway stations, fibre connections and customer terminals. Amazon renamed Project Kuiper as Amazon Leo in November 2025 and is preparing an initial service rollout while constellation deployment continues.
