How much did Amelia Earhart Memorial Bridge cost to build?
The Amelia Earhart Memorial Bridge carries four lanes of U.S. Route 59 across the Missouri River between Atchison, Kansas, and Winthrop, Missouri. Kansas and Missouri jointly funded the network tied-arch replacement for the narrow two-lane crossing built in 1938. The 776-metre bridge has a 161-metre main span, paired steel arches and programmable LED lighting. Construction began in 2009, paused during the 2011 Missouri River flood, and the new crossing opened to traffic on 4 December 2012. KDOT's USD 59.4 million construction award covered the bridge contract; FHWA later recorded a broader USD 79.9 million estimated total project cost across the federally tracked phases.
