How much did the current 1978 Antioch Bridge cost?
The Antioch Bridge, officially the Senator John A. Nejedly Bridge, carries State Route 160 for 1.8 miles across the San Joaquin River between Contra Costa and Sacramento counties. The present steel plate-girder bridge opened on 1 December 1978, replacing a narrower lift bridge from 1926, and MTC records its construction cost at USD 34 million. Its 460-foot navigation span provides 135 feet of vertical clearance, with one traffic lane in each direction plus bicycle and pedestrian access. A seismic retrofit reached safety completion in April 2012 after adding isolation bearings, steel bracing and reinforced structural elements.
