How much did Astoria?Megler Bridge cost to build?
The Astoria?Megler Bridge carries U.S. Route 101 across the mouth of the Columbia River between Astoria, Oregon, and Point Ellice, Washington. Its steel cantilever through-truss section is part of a crossing roughly 4.1 miles long, but the central main span is only about 376 metres; a 752-metre figure sometimes labelled as the main span actually measures the elevated three-span truss section. Construction started in November 1962 and the bridge opened to traffic on 29 July 1966, before its formal dedication on 27 August. Oregon's transportation department describes USD 24 million in 1962 dollars as the construction cost that the original tolls helped repay.
