How much did Bataan Nuclear Power Plant cost to build?
Bataan Nuclear Power Plant is a single-unit Westinghouse pressurized-water reactor complex at Napot Point in Morong, west of Manila. Construction began in 1976 and the structure was completed in the mid-1980s, but it was never loaded with fuel or connected to the grid; the Philippine government kept it mothballed over safety and policy concerns. Philippine Nuclear Research Institute material puts its historical construction cost at about US$2.3 billion and its intended electric capacity at roughly 620 MW. A 1976 one-reactor agreement of about US$1.1 billion was an earlier contract figure, not the final build cost; the much earlier US$500 million proposal covered two reactors and is not directly comparable.
