How much did Big Dam Bridge cost to build?

The Big Dam Bridge is a pedestrian-and-bicycle crossing over the Arkansas River and Murray Lock and Dam, linking the Little Rock and North Little Rock sides of the Arkansas River Trail. Arkansas's highway department described its construction cost as approximately $12.8 million in a 2006–2007 publication and gave a total length of 4,226 feet, including the approaches. The bridge opened for public events on 30 September 2006; the City of Little Rock described a 5K race that day as part of the new bridge's opening weekend. Its river-crossing section is about 3,463 feet, shorter than the full trail-bridge length. A broader figure of almost $17 million cited for local, state and federal project financing includes adjacent trails and parkland and should not be treated as the bridge's construction cost.
