How much does Frederick Douglass Tunnel cost?

The Frederick Douglass Tunnel is the replacement of the 153-year-old Baltimore and Potomac Tunnel on Amtrak's Northeast Corridor in Baltimore, Maryland, a programme of a new 3.67 mile alignment with a 2 mile tunnel whose first phase of two passenger tubes is under way, with the project kick-off on 30 January 2023 and the first tunnel boring machine to launch in 2028. Baltimore Fishbowl reported on 29 July 2026 that it is a 6 billion dollar initiative, with 4.5 billion federal, about 750 million from Amtrak and 450 million from Maryland, scheduled to be completed in 2036.
