How much did the renovation of Husky Stadium — 2011–2013 renovation cost?
Husky Stadium opened on the University of Washington's Seattle campus in 1920, but this cost question concerns its 2011–2013 rebuilding. The university demolished and reconstructed the lower bowl and south stands, removed the track, lowered the playing field and added a football operations center, premium seating, a 200-space garage and a sports medicine center. In its 2013 renovation media kit, UW projected $280.6 million for the expanded programme: $247.4 million for executing the original renovation scope, $10.9 million for the sports medicine center and $22.3 million for elective improvements. The original Board of Regents budget was $250 million. UW gave the renovated stadium a capacity of 70,138, with groundbreaking on 7 November 2011 and a grand reopening on 31 August 2013. The 2016 photograph shows the rebuilt stadium. Historical accounts put construction of the original 1920 venue at roughly $577,000–$600,000, a different project; UW publications also use a narrower $261 million renovation figure without reconciling its scope to the expanded $280.6 million projection.
