How much did Lötschberg Base Tunnel cost to build?

The Lotschberg Base Tunnel is the 34.6 km railway base tunnel under the Bernese Alps in Switzerland, one of the two centrepieces of the NRLA (NEAT) project with the Gotthard Base Tunnel, whose construction began in 1999, broke through in 2005 and was opened on 15 June 2007 as the longest land tunnel in the world, with regular operation declared on 9 December 2007. swissinfo.ch reported at the opening a final total cost of CHF 5.3 billion, about one billion more than estimated in 1998, while Wikipedia gives CHF 4.3 billion, corrected to 1998 prices.

North portal of the Lötschberg base tunnel near Frutigen, Canton of Bern, Switzerland. Right before the tunnel entrance is the so called intervention site. The idea is that trains which are on fire must not stop inside the tunnel but leave the tube if possible and evacuate people here. That's what the stairs are intended for. Firefighter access is provided from the other side.
