What was NASA's January 2026 life-cycle estimate for Mobile Launcher 2?

Mobile Launcher 2 was designed to support the taller Space Launch System Block 1B at Kennedy Space Center. GAO recorded a US$1.8731 billion life-cycle estimate using NASA data collected in January 2026. NASA paused the work in February 2026 and was reviewing the asset's future, so this is neither spending to date nor a final build cost.

Teams at Bechtel National, Inc. use a crane to lift Module 4 into place atop the mobile launcher 2 tower chair at its Kennedy Space Center park site on January 3, 2025. Module 4 is the first of seven modules that will be stacked vertically to make up the almost 400-foot launch tower that will be used beginning with the Artemis IV mission.
