How much did Prince of Wales Bridge cost to build?
The Prince of Wales Bridge, built as the Second Severn Crossing, carries the M4 across the Severn estuary between England and Wales. Construction began in April 1992 and the 5,128-metre crossing opened in June 1996. The UK Department for Transport reports construction costs of GBP 330 million excluding VAT under the concession. Severn River Crossing plc later recorded GBP 387.4 million for the construction contract and GBP 76.6 million in capitalised interest in its 2014 accounts. These are differently framed figures, not amounts to add together; the pre-existing GBP 122 million debt assumed for the first crossing is not a cost of this bridge.
