How much did Quebec Bridge cost to build?
The Quebec Bridge is a steel cantilever railway and road bridge over the St. Lawrence River near Quebec City, 987 m long with a 549 m span between the main piers, the longest cantilever span in the world. Its first attempt collapsed in 1907 and its centre span fell during hoisting in 1916, killing about 89 workers in total, before the bridge was completed in 1917 with the first train in October and regular traffic in December, and an official opening by the Prince of Wales in 1919. Legion Magazine gives a total cost of more than CAD 22 million and Wikipedia gives CAD 23 million, against a CAD 6 million bond authorised in 1903.
