How much did the Shoreham Nuclear Power Plant on Long Island cost to build?
The Shoreham Nuclear Power Plant on Long Island, New York, was an 820 MW General Electric boiling-water-reactor plant built by the Long Island Lighting Company (LILCO) from 1973, declared complete in 1985 but never operated commercially after public opposition and failed evacuation planning, and shut down under a 1989 deal with Governor Mario Cuomo before the Long Island Power Authority bought it in 1992 and decommissioned it by 1994. The American Nuclear Society, citing the New York State Comptroller, says it ultimately took about USD 5.6 billion to construct; Wikipedia gives USD 6 billion and the Philadelphia Inquirer about USD 5 billion.
