How much did the Skye Bridge cost to build?
The Skye Bridge links the Isle of Skye with the Scottish mainland across Loch Alsh, built by Skye Bridge Ltd as one of the first major Private Finance Initiative projects from July 1992 to October 1995 and opened on Monday 16 October 1995, with a 250-metre main span and an overall length of about 568 metres. The Scottish Roads Archive gives the cost as GBP 27 million (GBP 57 million in 2025 money) and says the Scottish Government bought the bridge for GBP 27 million in late 2004 to abolish tolls; Retrospect Journal gives an official building cost of GBP 20 million, so the figures conflict.
