What is the contract value of SpaceX Crew Dragon development?

Crew Dragon is SpaceX's crewed Dragon 2 spacecraft, developed under NASA's Commercial Crew Program, in which NASA announced the Commercial Crew Transportation Capability (CCtCap) contracts to SpaceX and Boeing on 16 September 2014. AmericaSpace reported that SpaceX was awarded USD 2.6 billion to build the Dragon V2 spacecraft and launch between one and six flights on Falcon 9, and The Register reported in September 2026 that a USD 946 million modification for Crew-15 to Crew-17 brought the contract to USD 5.92 billion. The 2014 award covers development, certification and flights, not development alone.

The uncrewed SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft is the first Commercial Crew vehicle to visit the International Space Station. Here it is pictured with its nose cone open revealing its docking mechanism while approaching the station's Harmony module. The Crew Dragon would automatically dock moments later to the international docking adapter attached to the forward end of Harmony. (cropped and brightened from the original)
