How much did the original Tappan Zee Bridge cost to build?
The original Tappan Zee Bridge was a cantilever truss bridge carrying the New York State Thruway across the Hudson River between Tarrytown and South Nyack, designed by Emil H. Praeger with a main span of 1,212 feet (369 m) and a total length of 16,013 feet (4,881 m). The New York State Thruway Authority says construction began on 12 March 1952, it opened on 15 December 1955 and it cost nearly USD 81 million, built on a tight budget. It was replaced by the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, opened in 2017, which is a separate project.
