How much did the construction of Units 1 and 2 of Plant Vogtle in Georgia cost?
Plant Vogtle in Burke County, Georgia, is the largest nuclear generating plant in the United States. Its first two Westinghouse pressurized-water units (about 1,150 MW each) were built from 1976 and entered commercial operation in 1987 and 1989; two AP1000 units followed in 2023 and 2024. Units 1 and 2 are owned by Georgia Power, Oglethorpe Power, MEAG Power and the Dalton Water & Light Sinking Fund Commission and run by Southern Nuclear, and their construction cost rose from an estimated USD 660 million to USD 8.87 billion.
