How much does the rebuild of Washington Bridge cost?
The Washington Bridge carries the westbound lanes of I-195 over the Seekonk River between Providence and East Providence, Rhode Island. The 1968 span was closed on 11 December 2023 after inspectors found structural defects, and the state decided in March 2024 to demolish and replace it. In June 2025 Walsh Construction won the rebuild with a hard cost of 39 million and a total contract value that could reach 27 million; the new five-lane bridge is due by November 2028, and Rhode Island has sued thirteen firms over its earlier design and inspection.
