What was the budget for Western Sydney International Airport Stage 1?
Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport is Australia's first greenfield international airport in more than 50 years, being built by the Australian Government's Western Sydney Airport company at Badgerys Creek. Stage 1 has a 3.7 km runway and a terminal, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects and COX with Woods Bagot as-built, for 10 million passengers a year. Bechtel, which led design and construction, completed it in June 2025 nearly seven months ahead of schedule and within the A$5.3 billion budget; opening is planned for late 2026.
