How much does Woodsmith Mine Tunnel cost?

The Woodsmith Mine Tunnel, also called the mineral transport system, is a 37 km tunnel about 6 m across, carrying an underground conveyor that will take polyhalite from the Woodsmith mine near Whitby, North Yorkshire, to Wilton on Teesside. Strabag was contracted in 2018 to bore it and fit it out, and Anglo American took over the project in 2020; by February 2023 the drive was over halfway at 22 km. The tunnel drive and fit-out were estimated at £1.1–1.46 billion in 2018, a small part of the whole £4.2 billion Woodsmith project.
